Warm homemade biscuits fresh from the oven with sweet cherry butter melting on top… this recipe feels like comfort, family, and slow mornings in the kitchen. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite homemade treats that pairs perfectly with coffee and cozy weekends.

Homemade Buttery Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut cold butter into the flour mixture until crumbly.
  4. Slowly stir in milk until dough forms.
  5. Place dough onto a floured surface and gently knead 4–5 times.
  6. Roll or pat dough about 1-inch thick.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut biscuits.
  8. Place in a greased round baking pan.
  9. Bake 12–15 minutes until tops are golden brown.
  10. Brush tops with melted butter if desired.

Homemade Cherry Butter 🍒

Cherry butter is a smooth fruit spread similar to apple butter, made by slowly cooking cherries down until thick and rich. Properly refrigerated cherry butter generally keeps around 3–4 weeks once opened, while properly canned jars may last much longer when sealed and stored correctly.  

Grocery Shopping List:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 4 cups pitted cherries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

  • 4 cups pitted cherries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add cherries and sugar to a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat until cherries soften.
  3. Blend mixture carefully using an immersion blender or hand mixer accessory.
  4. Return to low heat and simmer 45–60 minutes until thick.
  5. Stir in lemon juice and vanilla.
  6. Spoon into clean mason jars.

Serve warm over fresh biscuits.

How Long Does Cherry Butter Stay Fresh?

  • Refrigerator: about 3–4 weeks in sealed jars
  • Freezer: up to 6 months
  • Properly canned and sealed jars: often up to 1 year or more in a cool pantry  

Always refrigerate after opening and use clean utensils to prevent spoilage.
