Why God Allows Leaders (Even Imperfect Ones)

I believe something many don’t always see…

God has purpose in leadership.

The Bible tells us that all authority is allowed by Him, and that He raises up leaders and removes them according to His plan. That doesn’t mean every leader is perfect—but it does mean God is still in control.

“The powers that be are ordained of God.” — Romans 13:1 (KJV)
“He removeth kings, and setteth up kings…” — Daniel 2:21 (KJV)

We are also called to pray for those in authority—always.

“…that prayers… be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority…” — 1 Timothy 2:1–2 (KJV)

And even though one person’s sin may seem greater than another in our eyes, God sees the heart. We are all in need of grace, and each of us must choose whether we will be covered by Him.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)

God loved us before we were ever born. Nothing about a person—leader or not—surprises Him. He already knows every heart, every choice, and every outcome.

“…man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

Even when a leader does not believe, God is still all-knowing and sovereign. He can use anyone—whether they follow Him or not—to accomplish His purpose.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” — Isaiah 55:8–9 (KJV)

Sometimes we understand what God is doing… and sometimes we don’t.

But Scripture reminds us that even kings’ hearts are in His hands.

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord…” — Proverbs 21:1 (KJV)

So instead of fear or division, I choose prayer.

Prayer for wisdom.
Prayer for guidance.
Prayer for peace in nations and for people who are hurting or oppressed.

Because at the end of the day—
God is still on the throne.
